EXPOSURE MONITORING
Acid Mist Exposure Monitoring
Acid mist exposure can arise across electroplating, surface treatment and chemical process environments where corrosive airborne contaminants are generated.
We support organisations with acid mist monitoring through air sampling and biological monitoring, carried out by BOHS qualified occupational hygienists.
Covering the entire UK, our exposure assessments help duty holders understand employee exposure, evaluate existing control measures and support ongoing COSHH requirements.

ENVIRONMENTS
Assessing acid mist exposure in the workplace
Acid mist exposure can occur wherever acids are heated, agitated, sprayed or otherwise dispersed into the workplace atmosphere during industrial or chemical processing activities.
Electroplating Processes
Electroplating activities associated with airborne chromic acid mist and corrosive aerosol generation.
Anodising Operations
Metal treatment processes capable of generating airborne acidic aerosol and process-related mist exposure.
Pickling & Metal Treatment
Metal cutting activities capable of generating airborne coolant mist and wider aerosol exposure concerns.
Surface Treatment
Enclosed and semi-enclosed machining systems associated with airborne mist escape during operational activities.
Chemical Process Tanks
General engineering activities involving machining fluids, aerosol generation and operator exposure potential.
Battery Manufacturing
Battery production environments involving corrosive substances and airborne acid mist exposure risk.
Laboratory Environments
Laboratory processes involving acid handling, heated solutions and airborne corrosive contaminant generation.
Wet Chemical Processing
Industrial wet-process activities involving airborne acidic aerosol and wider workplace exposure concerns.
PCB Manufacturing
Etching and chemical treatment processes associated with acidic aerosol and corrosive airborne contaminant generation.
PROTOCOL
Assessing a range of hazardous substances
We assess acid mist exposure through workplace air monitoring and biological sampling. Exposure may present significant respiratory and health risks depending on substance toxicity, process intensity, aerosol generation and control measures.
PROCESS
Simple and practical assessment process
We provide structured acid mist exposure assessment with minimal operational disruption, from initial review and workplace monitoring through to reporting and practical exposure control recommendations.
1.
Initial Discussion & Process Review
We review workplace activities, chemical processes, extraction arrangements and existing exposure concerns to determine an appropriate occupational hygiene assessment strategy.
2.
Workplace Monitoring & Review
Air monitoring, biological monitoring, ventilation assessment and occupational hygiene review are undertaken under representative operational conditions.
3.
Laboratory Analysis & Assessment
Samples are analysed either in-house or by accredited laboratories and assessed against relevant Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) and applicable occupational hygiene guidance.
4.
Reporting & Recommendations
A full occupational hygiene report is provided outlining findings, exposure observations and practical recommendations where further control improvement or reassessment may be required.
