EXPOSURE MONITORING
Respirable Crystalline Silica Monitoring
Respirable crystalline silica (RCS) exposure can arise across a wide range of construction, manufacturing and industrial processes.
We support employers with silica dust monitoring through personal and static air sampling, carried out by BOHS qualified occupational hygienists.
Covering the entire UK, our exposure assessments help duty holders understand employee exposure, evaluate existing control measures and support ongoing compliance requirements.

ENVIRONMENTS
Assessing silica dust across industrial processes
We assess respirable crystalline silica exposure wherever silica-containing materials are cut, disturbed, processed or mechanically worked during normal activities.
Manufacturing & Production
Industrial processing activities involving silica-containing materials, products or process-generated airborne particulates.
Quarrying & Mineral Processing
Stone, mineral and aggregate processing activities associated with elevated airborne respirable silica dust generation.
Cutting & Grinding Work
Mechanical processing activities capable of generating hazardous airborne respirable silica dust during material disturbance.
Engineered Stone Processing
High silica-content materials associated with elevated respirable crystalline silica exposure during cutting and finishing activities.
Aggregate & Material Handling
Bulk material transfer and processing activities capable of generating airborne silica-containing dust particulates.
Ceramics & Refractory Work
Processing and handling of silica-containing ceramic and refractory materials capable of generating respirable dust exposure.
Construction & Refurbishment
Construction activities involving masonry, concrete and materials capable of generating airborne respirable particulates.
Concrete & Masonry Work
Concrete cutting, drilling and preparation activities commonly associated with airborne silica dust exposure generation.
Surface Preparation Work
Abrasive preparation and finishing activities capable of disturbing silica-containing coatings, substrates and materials.
ANALYTES & CONTAMINANTS
Assessment of silica containing processes
We assess respirable crystalline silica and silica dust exposure under normal working conditions, comparing results against relevant Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs).
PROCESS
Simple and efficient assessment process
We provide structured silica dust monitoring with minimal operational disruption, from initial discussion and workplace assessment through to laboratory analysis and detailed reporting.
1.
Initial Discussion & Preliminary Assessment
We discuss workplace activities, materials, existing controls and any known or suspected exposure concerns to determine an appropriate monitoring strategy.
2.
Workplace Exposure Monitoring
Personal and/or static air sampling is undertaken under representative working conditions to assess employee exposure during normal operational activities.
3.
Laboratory Analysis & Assessment
Samples are analysed either in-house or by accredited laboratories and assessed against relevant Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) and applicable occupational hygiene guidance.
4.
Reporting & Recommendations
A full report is provided outlining exposure findings, monitoring methodology and practical recommendations where further control or reassessment may be required.
