EXPOSURE MONITORING
Workplace Dust Monitoring
Workplace dust exposure can arise across a wide range of industrial, manufacturing and process environments.
We support employers with workplace dust monitoring through personal and static air sampling, carried out by BOHS qualified occupational hygienists.
Covering the entire UK, our exposure assessments help duty holders understand employee exposure, evaluate existing control measures and support ongoing compliance requirements.

ENVIRONMENTS
Assessing dust exposure across industrial processes
We assess workplace dust exposure across a broad range of environments where materials are handled, processed, transferred, cut, mixed or mechanically disturbed during normal activities.
Manufacturing & Engineering
Food & Beverage Production
Ingredient handling and food manufacturing activities associated with flour and organic dust exposure.
Woodworking & Joinery
Cutting, sanding and machining activities associated with airborne wood dust generation and exposure.
Production & Packaging Lines
Production environments involving material movement, automated processing and operational airborne dust generation.
Biomass & Power Generation
Combustion and fuel handling environments associated with carbon and process-generated airborne dust exposure.
Aggregate & Material Handling
Bulk material handling activities generating airborne dust during transfer, loading and processing operations.
Construction & Maintenance
Construction, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment activities generating varied airborne particulates.
Powder Handling Operations
Powder transfer, weighing, batching and mixing activities associated with airborne particulate release.
Recycling & Waste Processing
Material sorting and waste processing activities generating mixed airborne particulate exposure environments.
ANALYTES & CONTAMINANTS
Commonly assessed workplace dusts
We can assess a wide range of workplace dusts. Where exposure profiles are unclear, our qualified occupational hygienists can provide guidance or undertake a preliminary site assessment to help determine process risks.
PROCESS
Simple and efficient assessment process
We provide workplace dust monitoring with minimal operational disruption, from initial discussion and workplace assessment through to laboratory analysis and detailed reporting.
1.
Initial Discussion & Preliminary Assessment
We discuss workplace activities, materials, existing controls and any known or suspected exposure concerns to determine an appropriate monitoring strategy.
2.
Workplace Exposure Monitoring
Personal and/or static air sampling is undertaken under representative working conditions to assess employee exposure during normal operational activities.
3.
Laboratory Analysis & Assessment
Samples are analysed either in-house or by accredited laboratories and assessed against relevant Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) and applicable occupational hygiene guidance.
4.
Reporting & Recommendations
A full report is provided outlining exposure findings, monitoring methodology and practical recommendations where further control or reassessment may be required.
